Buick Straight Eight.

We were recently contacted by the owner of a 1940 Buick Coupe. The original Delco starter unit had turned its last and was beyond economic repair. With the car being infrequently used and having been converted to 12V, the fitment of a Powerlite unit was an obvious solution.

Not having developed a starter for this engine before we were able to use the original unit as a pattern to check to check the viability of developing a Powerlite solution. In this case we were able to identify that we had a production unit that would be suitable. Not having fitted the unit on this application before we were very keen to fit the unit ourselves, ensuring that the unit would fit and operate correctly.

The unit fitted without fouling any obstacles or requiring any modifications to the vehicle or it’s wiring, which is an important part of the Powerlite philosophy.

The starter starts the car reliably, even after long periods of inactivity, thanks to the more efficient starter motor.
